WEBCHAT Veterans turned away from ‘private’ Remembrance Sunday vigil at park
If they all followed the rules, freedom would have been lost. Their strength and sacrifice from everyone and their comrades should be commemorated. Nothing should stop this, as nothing stopped them.

There was a private memorial at 11, 30 people attended as per the WAG guidelines, a number of those in attendance were veterans, who were kept safe through the park being closed. It reopened at midday for others to pay their respects. Not all veterans could be there due to the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic.

The way I see it is that the lockdown rules do not apply to those in charge. Which has been the case since day one. MPs going where they want. Royals visiting care homes etc. The lockdown rules are only in place for us, the ‘common people’.

Some people seem to forget that we are here because of their sacrifice.

Regardless of the occasion there are a set of rules to follow, it’s not rocket science. It wasn’t a private event to exclude others, it was an event to show some mark of respect whilst following government guidelines. Just remember we are honoring people who endured war, they were were given rules to follow too.

They should have allowed people in at different times with the veterans being there for 11!

There were 29 people at the monument. And 70% of those were veterans drawn from military associations ... There was only a very small attendance from council officials. It had to be this way as it was a Welsh Government directive.

We’ve known for over two weeks that numbers would be limited for Remembrance commemorations. As a veteran myself, I watched The Cenotaph on TV, then went to my local Memorial later in the day to pay my respect.
