Chance to be an ambassador for your local area

- ROBERT LLOYD robert.lloyd01@walesonline.co.uk

THE importance of trusted local news, information, advertising and what’s on information has jumped in value during the challenges of the coronavirus lockdowns.

Our dependable printed daily newspaper provides one way of following the “life is local” philosophy.

Our sister website InYourArea.co. uk provides another means of keeping your finger on the pulse of all things local.

InYourArea is one of the fastest growing websites in the country, with news, information, public service data and advertising tailored specifically to your postcode.

It showcases all parts of local life, and now the website is looking for “area ambassadors”.

InYourArea needs people who have their fingers on the pulse of life in their communities – people who are up to the challenges of lockdown and committed to keeping their communities informed.

So far, InYourArea has recruited more than 150 people across the UK who are ensuring their neighbourhoods are up to date.

But the website needs many more. Area Ambassadors help show what’s happening in your street, in your suburb or in your village – from what charities are doing, neighbours pulling together or food banks needing help. Andrew Cleminson is one of InYourArea’s latest recruits.

He said: “InYourArea is a fantastic platform to share positive news and ideas with your neighbourhood.”

Another Area Ambassador, Steph Thompson, uses InYourArea to reminisce about buildings gone but not forgotten, and ideas on how the space could be utilised in the future.

Molly Dowrick has been encouraging her community to post “positives” to try and help take people’s minds off the stresses of the current pandemic. Peter Roberts used the platform to start a petition to make better use of his local park. Once a petition reaches 25 votes, the team at InYourArea contacts your local MP on your behalf.

A simple post on the site can also lead to stories receiving a higher profile – both in print and on associated websites, such as WalesOnline.

Area Ambassadors have a direct link to the editorial teams on InYour Area, who can publish articles and stories to a wider reach if necessary.

The editor-in-chief of InYourArea, Ed Walker, said: “Since launching our area ambassadors scheme in the summer we’ve seen dozens of people signing up each month to take part right across the country.

“I want InYourArea to showcase all parts of local life and our area ambassadors ensure where you live is being reflected in the latest updates about your neighbourhood.

“This is your chance to ensure the place where you live is getting its fair share of the spotlight.

“We’d love for you to sign up and get involved to ensure we’ve got an InYourArea.co.uk representative in every area of the UK.”
