You think Councildreamsupmore ways to disrupt city roads

-

JUST when you think Cardiff council has finished thinking up schemes to shut all the roads in the city to cars they come up with another initiative namely “popup cycleways”.

Having read the latest plan for this madness I wasn’t surprised to see it involves Albany Road. What a great idea to get rid of the parking here which will adversely impact on people shopping in this area.

Most cyclists don’t need a dedicated cycleway as they use the pavements, still with the proposed widening of the pavements in Wellfield Road and Albany Road this much protected group will have more room to whizz along and frighten pedestrians.

Also these council geniuses don’t seem to be aware that the dedicated blue badge parking in Wellfield Road is being abused daily by drivers who don’t have a blue badge, and due to Covid you never see a traffic warden in this area. In addition to this you have to applaud the council for starting the work on Wellfield Road now which will cause the most inconvenience to the shops and road users in this area before Christmas. I would also point out that the buses that use Wellfield Road will now be travelling along Pen-Y-Lan Road which wasn’t built for this type of traffic and will add even more delays for bus journeys into town. I bet the bus drivers are really looking forward to this. Most people using this road park their cars in the middle of the street as parking here is limited to residents only. What a dog’s breakfast, and the council taxpayers will foot the bill as per usual. Never mind a vaccine for Covid how about injecting some common sense into those running the highways department before Cardiff grinds to a standstill?

Congratulations – it’s all just protocol

THE Pope’s congratulations to “Catholic” President Elect Joe Biden is nothing, only protocol.

The Pope is not just spiritual leader of the Catholic Church but a Head of State, the Vatican State.

While President Elect, Mr Biden said he hopes to work with Pope Francis on issue such as climate change, poverty and immigration. Biden didn’t mention abortion and I’m sure the Pope won’t be working with him to promote abortion throughout America and the world.

Mr Biden’s Catholicity is questionable, as to support abortion goes against all Catholicism teaches in protection of the sanctity of human life given to each and everyone of us from the moment of conception/fertilisation to natural death.

Help for diabetics at Christmastime

WHILE this year Christmas is going to be different from usual for many of us it is still a time for preparations and extra food.

As a charity for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, we recognise that it can be a difficult time for people with both types of diabetes, especially if it is their first Christmas with the condition. It can be a time

of temptation, unpredictable or delayed meals, extra nibbles, excitement and stress, all of which can make managing their diabetes more of a problem.

We have just published our FREE December Newsletter and we also have a FREE booklet, Diabetes at

Christmas, to help families who live with the condition. It gives various options for Christmas dinners, a recipe for homemade, lower carbohydrate and calorie Christmas pudding and many other tips. We also have a booklet, Diabetes – Everyday Eating, which may also be useful. We hope the newsletter and booklets will help to make life easier over the festive season. We are happy to send out these, free, to any Echo reader if they could contact IDDT on 01604 622837 or email enquiries@iddtinternational.org Jenny Hirst
