WEBCHAT First Minister says there is risk of another firebreak lockdown before Christmas
When are they going to get that all lockdowns do is temporarily slow down infections. Infection is not necessarily a bad thing as most do not get seriously ill. However, the fear generated in the population is causing elderly and vulnerable to not check out worrying symptons and miss vital/early treatments. We are heading for a total anarchy and breakdown of civilised society never mind the economy if we carry on like this. Stop recording all deaths as due to Covid as many die of other conditions WITH (or without) Covid.

Yessssss. Let’s announce this now and send everyone into a frenzy about Xmas shopping and they all rush to the shops all at the same time. Let’s send thousands into the cities and the supermarkets. Great that the firebreak worked to an extent, and 17 days, much less than England have right now. If people would behave perhaps we could keep them from going back up.

They can sod off, I ain’t doing another lockdown. I’ve stuck to the rules since March, did everything asked of me, I will not do another lockdown just to relax it for five days. NO.

Can’t believe how many people are asking for lockdowns when there
is no proof they work, everyone blaming everyone else for the virus instead of seeing how much fear is being pumped into us everyday, if nobody watched the TV or had social media you wouldn’t even know there was a virus.

I have said this before. Covid is here long term. We have to learn to live with it, and not shut down every time the R rate increases.
More people being tested will mean more positive cases, but what about the mortality rate compared to seasonal averages? That would be a more telling figure but nothing is ever mentioned of this? Scaremongering like this will cause panic... people will flood to get Xmas shopping done quickly, causing an increase in potential R rate.

How is two weeks’ lockdown before and a month after worth five days of freedom for Christmas? It’ll be chaos with devastating results! Would be better to stick to households for Christmas and continue seeing extended family and friends and partners, etc the way we do now. Five days of freedom isn’t worth six weeks’ lockdown. I’m sorry but lockdown before Christmas, lockdown after Christmas, people’s mental health and businesses are already at breaking point... we can’t keep living a life in and out of lockdown.
