BARRY Town are at Jenner Park today where they host Newtown with a 2.30pm kick-off. live on S4C.

Gavin Chesterfield’s Linnets gave a spirited performance last week when they went down 2-1 at leaders The New Saints.

A goal by Nat Jarvis was not enough for Barry to share the spoils, but a repeat showing of their second half performance at Park Hall should give Chesterfield’s team plenty of encouragement for the encounter against their Mid-Wales visitors.

Chesterfield was full of praise for his team’s efforts, but was a little frustrated that his team picked up no points.

“When you go to TNS and play as well as we did you usually get some luck, but it didn’t go our way,” he said.

“I was also bemused that we picked up six yellow cards when there wasn’t a bad foul in the game, but we will still hope to play with the same tempo against Newtown to try and get ourselves and our superb fans who are still not able to attend a home win to celebrate.”

Barry played a 3-5-2 system last weekend with their goal coming from an excellent left-wing cross from Chris Hugh to feed Jarvis in the box.

If Jarvis can start scoring on a regular basis it could boost Barry chances of European qualification.

When they made Europe last season, Kayne McLaggon was their top scorer with 13 goals and second in their scoring charts was midfielder Clayton Green with four which shows why Jarvis was signed to try and compete with McLaggon and produce at least 25 goals as a strike force to be reckoned with.

Newtown recorded a smart 3-2 home win last weekend against Flint Town at Latham Park. The Robins, guided by Chris Hughes, are usually an entertaining team to watch and they performed well at Jenner Park last season by winning in the league and dispatching Barry from the JD Welsh Cup.

Cardiff Met leaders TNS (2.30pm).

Christian Edwards’ students drew 1-1 against Aberystwyth last weekend with debutant Ashton Gleed getting his first goal for the Met.

After an encouraging performance from the bench, Gleed deserved his goal, but also collected a broken nose which will keep him out of today’s clash.

The students played Bristol Rovers U23s on Tuesday in preparation for this clash and recorded a 2-1 win, with ex-Swansea City player Craig Davies scoring a brace.

Emlyn Lewis, the Met’s influential central defender, is still unavailable due to suspension. Edwards will be

University welcome to Cyncoed today keen to get his club captain Bradley Woolridge back among his starting XI to strengthen his back four.

TNS are still five points clear at the top and undefeated, but the students have a decent track record at home against the Oswestry giants.

The smart money says an away win is on the cards for the visitors, but a spirited team effort could sneak Edwards and his students a point.

The game between Penybont and Caernarfon Town was postponed after a Penybont player was forced to selfisolate due to Covid-19.
