Nine more Covid deaths and 900 new cases across Wales

NINE more people have died in Wales after testing positive for coronaviru­s and close to 900 new cases of the virus have been confirmed.

According to the latest statistics released by Public Health Wales yesterday there have been 892 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Wales, a rise on the 808 recorded the previous day.

A total of 73,233 people have tested positive for coronaviru­s in Wales since the outbreak began, while 2,385 people have died.

The infection rate across Wales as a whole now stands at 180.9 per 100,000 population based on the seven days up to November 20, up from 178.9 in the data released on Sunday.

Blaenau Gwent remains the county in Wales with the highest infection rate, with a seven-day rate of 416.5, down from 435.1 the previous day.

Neath Port Talbot is the second highest with a rate of 274.9, up from 272.8, while Caerphilly is third with 261.8, up from 260.7.

In terms of new cases confirmed yesterday the areas with the highest number are Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) with 112, Cardiff with 96, Caerphilly with 80, Swansea with 77, Bridgend with 71, and Newport with 69.

Other areas with high new case rates are Wrexham with 43, Carmarthen­shire with 42, Neath Port Talbot with 40, Torfaen with 35, Blaenau Gwent and Vale of Glamorgan with 31, Flintshire with 26, Monmouthsh­ire with 19, Ceredigion and Merthyr Tydfil with 18, Pembrokesh­ire and Powys both with 15, and Denbighshi­re with 12.

Counties with fewer than 10 new confirmed cases according to yesterday’s statistics are Anglesey with five, Gwynedd with three, and Conwy with one.
