Our taxpayers’ money is now being frittered away

-

I WOULD like to congratulate Cardiff council for ensuring that the reopening of Castle

Street was delayed on November 29, 2020.

It should have been operational at 4pm but at 4.30pm it was still closed. According to the two “managers” that I spoke to on site (how much were they paid to work on a Sunday)?

No doubt they enjoyed the privilege of free parking at City Hall, (after all the bus service on a Sunday is awful), apparently it was too dangerous to reopen at this time. This was obviously due to ensuring the health and safety of the empty road outside Cardiff Castle.

Despite the promises of the council to reopen this arterial route in our capital city, this has been done in a piecemeal fashion.

They knew that this was planned for the 29th yet there seemed to be little planning in advance for this event.

Whilst buses and taxis were still excluded from this area, Deliveroo mopeds were still able to drive down Kingsway without being stopped by the council men in their vans and were given carte blanche to drive into Queen Street, irrespective of the Christmas shoppers in this pedestrian-only area. Why?

If the council tax payers of Cardiff think they are getting good value for money, then think again.

Our hard-earned cash is being frittered away by County Hall because no-one is prepared to challenge the frivolous spending that is going on under the guise of Covid.

Next year is going to be very difficult for council tax payers, less so for the people who spend our money.
