Air ambulance drops in after emergency call

AN AIR ambulance landed in a Cardiff park yesterday, as police sealed off a nearby street.

Police said the were called to a “medical incident” in the Roath area of the city at around 12.20pm.

One person was taken to the University Hospital of Wales by road ambulance. Their condition was not yet known last night.

Pictures from the scene show the air ambulance after it landed on Roath Recreation ground – popularly referred to as “The Rec” – near Penylan Library and Community Centre. Nearby, Bangor Street was closed off.

One witness said there was a “heavy police presence” in the area.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called to the Bangor Street area of Roath on the afternoon of Monday, February 22, to reports of a medical emergency.

“We responded with one emergency ambulance, one rapid response vehicle, the Wales Air Ambulance and one urgent care doctor.

“One person was taken by road to University Hospital Wales.”
