Dee signs new Dragons deal

-

WALES international hooker Elliot Dee has signed a new contract with Guinness PRO14 side the Dragons.

The Dragons have announced a long-term deal for the 26-year-old, who made his debut for them in 2013.

Dee has won 35 caps and made appearances off the replacements’ bench against Scotland and England in this season’s Guinness Six Nations.

“Elliot is passionate about playing for Dragons and determined to play a big role in our future success as a region,” Dragons rugby director Dean Ryan told the region’s official website.

“He has aspirations for the future, both for Dragons and Wales, and we are pleased that he feels our environment is the best place for him to achieve those goals.”

BOURNEMOUTH and Watford have both been charged with misconduct after a late brawl marred last weekend’s league game at the Vitality Stadium.

Watford’s Joao Pedro and Bournemouth’s Jack Wilshere were both sent off by referee Tony Harrington after tempers had flared during stoppagetime.

The melee, which overshadowed Bournemouth’s 1-0 win, was sparked by Pedro’s late sliding challenge on Jefferson Lerma. Wilshere and Pedro were both sent off after receiving second yellow cards.

A Football Association statement said: “AFC Bournemouth and Watford FC have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20 following their EFL Championship fixture on Saturday 27th February.

“Both clubs allegedly failed to ensure that their players and/or club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 96th minute of the fixture and they have until Friday 5th March to provide their responses.”

Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal in the 61st minute.

The Cherries are sixth in the table, eight points behind fellow promotion hopefuls Watford, who are third.

Meanwhile, there were just two positive Covid-19 results recorded following the latest round of testing across the English Football League.

The EFL confirmed that a total of 5,856 players and club staff from all 72 clubs across the Championship, League One and League Two were tested.

The results covered all the tests undertaken from Monday, February 22 to Sunday, February 28.

The EFL revealed that 70 clubs returned no positive cases.

A twice-weekly mandatory testing programme is still in place for all EFL clubs, and players or staff who have tested positive will self-isolate in line with the latest Government guidance.

Gary Neville has told former club Manchester United to ignore interest from Leeds United and keep hold of Daniel James this summer.

James, who very nearly sealed a move to Elland Road just five months before signing for the Red Devils in 2019, has enjoyed an upturn in form after previously struggling for game time under United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Even so, interest from Leeds has seemingly punctuated the winger’s entire stay at Old Trafford, and once again bubbled to the surface in the previous two transfer windows.

Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of United’s clash with Chelsea, Neville said: “I think Dan James should stay at Manchester United for Manchester United’s purposes. Is he a player you’d want to start every week?

“No, but you do need players of that quality to come off the bench who can cause a problem for other teams.

“He’s quick, he does get a goal on occasion, he’d be a sort of fifth or sixth forward which is good for Manchester United.”
