18 more die in Wales

THERE have been a further 18 deaths with coronaviru­s in Wales and more than 150 new confirmed cases, according to latest figures.

Public Health Wales (PHW) yesterday reported 152 new cases of Covid-19 in the latest 24-hour period, a drop from 195 reported on Saturday. This brings the total since the start of the pandemic to 204,886.

The number of people who have died with coronaviru­s in Wales within a month of a positive test now stands at 5,403.

The infection rate across Wales is now 46 cases per 100,000 of population based on the seven days up to March 2, a drop on a figure of 48 reported on Saturday.

The latest data also shows that Wales is now approachin­g almost one million people who have received their first dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine. The data shows that 995,059 have now received the first dose, up 11,640 from the figure of 983,419 published the day before.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething has announced that all adults in Wales will be offered a Covid-19 vaccine by July 31. The vaccine rollout programme in Wales is due to speed up rapidly from this week due to increased supplies. In total, 176,054 people have now received two doses of the vaccine.

Gwynedd remains the local authority with the highest seven-day rolling infection rate up to March 2, with 79.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Anglesey has the secondhigh­est rate with 74.2 cases per 100,000 people and Conwy is third with 73.4 cases per 100,000.

Gwynedd also had the highest amount of new cases reported yesterday with 14, followed by Cardiff with 12, Powys 12, Conwy 11, and Wrexham 10.

Newport has reported nine new cases, as have Flintshire and Caerphilly.
