Nurse is struck off after fraud conviction
A CHEATING nurse has been struck off for giving private cosmetic treatment while on sick leave from the NHS.
Nicola Bevan, 44, ran her Youthful You clinic while she was on sick leave with stress for six months and while claiming more than £11,000 in pay from the NHS.
She was offering private treatments at her private clinic, including £120 anti-wrinkle injections and £200 lip augmentations.
A fitness to practise hearing was told she also fraudulently took 33 prescriptions from two pharmacies.
Community health nurse Bevan was caught out when she advertised her Youthful You clinic on Facebook.
Advertising on social media, she said: “I am a nurse that offers Anti Wrinkle Injections, Fillers, Vampire FaceLift and also Fat Freezing.”
She fiddled a total of £11,211 from the NHS while on leave from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMUHB).
The money has since been paid back.
Bevan, of Pencoed, near Bridgend, has now been struck off the register by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) panel.
The mother-of-one was handed a 15-month suspended sentence for the fraud at Cardiff Crown Court in October 2019.
NMC panel chair Raymond Marley said: “The panel noted that Mrs Bevan had received two serious criminal convictions relating to fraud.
“It had found Mrs Bevan to have been motivated by personal gain in abusing her position as a registered nurse by claiming sick pay from ABMUHB whilst performing cosmetic procedures for her own business, and by falsely representing to two pharmaceutical companies that independent nurse prescribers had authorised the submission of private prescriptions for Botox-related medicine.
“Mrs Bevan has not offered anything by way of insight or remediation for this panel to take account of in making its determination.
“In the panel’s judgment, Mrs Bevan’s behaviour was indicative of a deep-seated attitudinal issue.”
Bevan carried out the fraud between December 2016 and June 2017.
Bevan now has 18 months to appeal against the striking-off order.
