Spring paused as weekend to see cold snap

-

THE spring-like weather is set to turn colder, wetter and windier as the current spell of settled weather comes to an end due to cold winds from Greenland and Canada.

Forecasters say the weather is set to change by Friday as an area of low pressure sweeps across the UK bringing wintry weather.

Cold winds will be brought in from the North Atlantic, and the wind chill will make it feel even colder.

Temperatures in Cardiff on Friday will be around 8C, but it will feel more like 3C.

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin says: “We are in for a bit of a shock come the end of the week.

“Big changes taking place in the weather during the course of this week. By the end of the week pretty much all parts of the UK will be noticeably wetter, windy and it is going to turn cold.

“The cold snap will not last long but it will certainly feel a bit chilly on Friday and Saturday, to say the least.

“The really cold air will move in on Friday, and it will feel blustery, bringing significant wind chill with it.”

He added that it will be cold enough to see some snow mixed into the showers that will fall in the north of the UK.

He added: “They are not expected to stick around for too long but it will feel colder for everywhere in the wind.”

The clocks are set to go forward this weekend, but, while it is unusual to get such cold weather this late in the year, it has happened before.

In 2013, Welsh sheep farmers lost hundreds of animals when heavy snow fell at the beginning of April.
