Lockdown rocks thanks to creative new group

-

A GROUP has been helping to lift the spirits of people in Cardiff.

The Rumney Rocks Facebook group was initially set up in the first lockdown by mother-of-two Jen Rudd, 46, from Rumney.

Jen said the rock painting group was just a bit of fun for everyone to get creative and a way to get the community to join in painting and hiding rocks around Rumney Hill gardens.

Once the decorated rocks are finished the creations are hidden and may be found while people are exercising, walking the dog, or on their way to work. People often post pictures to the group of their creations or finds.

Kens Convenience Store in Rumney even supplied some colouring books and pens to be hidden around the gardens.

Jen said: “It’s been amazing to see how the group has grown.”

Ned Kelly, 52, is one of the founder members. He got involved after being furloughed. He said: “It’s been a great way to lift my spirits, it’s kept me busy finding and decorating over 100 rocks and even some shells, to place in the gardens for people to find and enjoy.

“The creativity lifts your spirit, when creating something that has an impact on others at such a difficult time.”

Jemma Jones, 34, got involved when her five-year-old son found one of Jen’s pebbles.

Jemma said: “For Easter I’m hoping to do an egg hunt. I will be in the gardens for a few hours each day over the Easter weekend. I will hide some postcards around the gardens with woodland creatures on. Each creature card will have a letter.

“Find all the letters to reveal the secret word. Come back to me. Tell me the word and I’ll give either a bag of sweets/chocolates or a book/toy bag.”

Social distancing guidelines will be followed and hand sanitizer provided.
