N-ICE DAY FOR IT!
WALES was treated to a little taste of summer yesterday as temperatures reached their highest level so far this year.
Temperatures across the country were several degrees above average with bright and clear skies for most.
The Met Office recorded the highest temperature of the year so far with a reading of 21.6C recorded at Cardiff’s Bute Park, along with Gogerddan in Ceredigion.
Usk in Monmouthshire and Trawsgoed in Ceredigion both came in a close second with readings of 21.2C.
The welcome reprieve from the colder weather coincided with the lift in travel restrictions for people within Wales and the school holidays.
Several well-known beauty spots saw an influx of visitors as people attempted make the most of the sunshine.
Small groups gathered for takeaway coffees near the Senedd in Cardiff Bay and there were plenty of walkers and cyclists along the footpath to Penarth.
Barry Island saw its first busy day of the year so far with many braving a journey to sit out on the sands.
According to the Met Office Wales should enjoy another day of warm weather throughout today before dropping back down to average temperatures towards the end of the week.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said yesterday: “The warmth was top and tail of Wales into the low 20s.
“It’s your warmest day of the year so far quite easily and a very warm March day. It was clear for most but there was a little cloud towards western and coastal parts but it was largely clear through most of the day.”
Forecasting “equally warm” temperatures of around 21C or 22C and lots of sunshine today, he added: “Then we see a drop as we go into Thursday.”
