More fines as people flout restrictions

-

MORE than 100 people were fined for breaking coronavirus rules at the weekend after police broke up a number of house parties and indoor gatherings.

The “stay local” rule was lifted on Saturday as the Welsh Government also eased the number of people that can meet outdoors with up to six people from two households now allowed to meet socially distanced.

However, the rules for meeting indoors have remained the same despite this weekend’s easing of some of the lockdown rules.

South Wales Police confirmed on Monday that 106 people were fined for flouting the current restrictions, with the force receiving 261 calls related to possible breaches between Friday night and Sunday.

The majority of breaches related to house parties and indoor gatherings across the force area, including eight people who attended a wedding in Merthyr Tydfil.

A list of those fined include 10 people at a house party in Porth and eight people at a wedding in Heolgerrig, Merthyr Tydfil.

South Wales Police also confirmed that inquiries are ongoing with joint enforcement teams in relation to a number of Airbnb properties that were used to host parties with large numbers of people.

One of them included more than 60 people at a party in an Airbnb property in the Adamsdown area of Cardiff.

Meanwhile acceptable behaviour contracts were issued at premises serving alcohol due to large crowds gatherings, including one in Cathays and Plasnewydd.
