No Covid cases in parts of city

-

LARGE parts of Cardiff continue to see almost no coronavirus cases, the latest figures have revealed.

Hyper-local data published daily by Public Health Wales shows the number of coronavirus cases and the rate of infection.

The latest data shows that the majority of areas across the capital have reported between zero and two cases in the latest seven-day rolling period.

The promising figures show that only two suburbs across the city have seen cases hit double figures in the same time period.

Butetown has seen the highest number of cases with 13, followed by Grangetown North with 11. During that time 32 areas saw between zero and two cases.

The current infection rate in Cardiff stands at 33.5 per 100,000, compared to 38.1 per 100,000 across Wales.

That data is based on the rolling seven-day average between March 18 and March 24. It is really important to bear in mind that this data is very volatile because it covers such small areas. Where an area has a very small population even one positive case can push up the rate of cases per 100,000 significantly.

You should therefore be cautious about drawing too many conclusions directly from the information.

It comes as First Minister Mark Drakeford promised that the hospitality industry will get the “certainty that it’s looking for” in this week’s review.

He has said that the announcement this week will set out the plan for the whole of April and into May.

Mr Drakeford said it would not be “anytime soon” that Wales could guarantee the latest lockdown would be the last and that it could be some time before hospitality reopens indoors.
