Another person dies with Covid in Wales

ONE more person has died with coronaviru­s in Wales, while just 60 new positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

The latest data published by Public Health Wales yesterday brings the total number of positive cases since the outbreak began to 209,345.

The overall number of people to have died in the country within a month of testing positive for the virus has risen to 5,507.

The infection rate across Wales is now 36.8 per 100,000 people, based on the seven days up to March 26 – a drop from 37.6 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2.6%, significan­tly below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,427,183 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 437,937 have had both doses.

Rhondda Cynon Taf was the county with the highest number of new cases confirmed yesterday with nine, followed by Cardiff with eight, Swansea with six, Merthyr Tydfil, and Gwynedd and Anglesey each with four.

Neath Port Talbot recorded three new cases, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Conwy, Wrexham, Carmarthen­shire and Pembrokesh­ire each had two, and Caerphilly, Monmouthsh­ire, Newport, Denbighshi­re, Flintshire, Bridgend, Ceredigion and Powys each had one.

The Vale of Glamorgan reported no new cases yesterday.
