NEW ARREST OVER KILLING OF CITY MAN, 20

A MAN wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Cardiff man in Liverpool has been arrested while a second remains “at large”.

Police launched a murder investigation following the death of Fatah Warsame in 2018.

Mr Warsame was attacked in the early hours of May 6, when he was stabbed once to the chest.

Detectives believed the 20-year-old was stabbed in Liverpool city centre, at the corner of Wood Street and Roe Alley, before he made his way to Hanover Street where it is thought he collapsed at about 4am.

Police believed the attack followed an altercation between Mr Warsame, who was from Cardiff and in the city with friends, and three men outside what was then the Popland club on Slater Street.

Four days after Mr Warsame’s death a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and was also questioned on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug.

Two other men, a 21-year-old from London and a 20-year-old from Liverpool, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman from Toxteth were also later arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They were all released under investigation in 2018.

Now the Echo can reveal a man wanted in connection with the killing has been arrested after being returned to the UK.

Another man is also at large and remains wanted in connection with the killing, the Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed.

Senior crown prosecutor Rachael Barber of CPS Mersey-Cheshire said two men are “still wanted in connection with the killing”.

She said: “One has since returned to this country and has been arrested.”

The CPS said one of these men is “at large”.

Mr Warsame, a keen footballer who grew up in the Grangetown area of the city, was a former pupil of Fitzalan High School, as well as briefly attending Cathays High School.

In a statement released in the days after Mr Warsame’s death, a spokesperson for Fitzalan High School said: “Fatah will be fondly remembered and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Mudassar Khan, a friend from Mr Warsame’s time at Cathays High, said: “He was a very lively and good hearted individual, always full of energy and making people laugh.”
