Two more people die with covid across wales

TWO more people in Wales have died with coronaviru­s and more than 180 new positive cases have been identified.

The latest data published by Public Health Wales yesterday recorded 188 new positive cases to bring the total number since the outbreak began to 209,532.

The overall number of people to have died in the country within a month of testing positive for the virus has risen to 5,509.

The infection rate across Wales is now 35 per 100,000 people, based on the seven days up to March 27 – a drop from 36.8 on Wednesday.

All 22 local authoritie­s now have seven-day case rates below 100 per 100,000 after Merthyr Tydfil and Anglesey fell to 97.8 and 97.1 respective­ly.

Meanwhile the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2.5%, way below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,443,885 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 449,538 have had both doses.

Cardiff was the area with the highest number of new cases confirmed yesterday with 38, followed by Swansea with 20, Neath Port Talbot with 12, Flintshire with 11 and Anglesey with 10.

All other local authoritie­s reported below double figures including Carmarthen­shire with nine, Denbighshi­re and Pembrokesh­ire each with eight, Newport with seven, Gwynedd and Rhondda Cynon Taf with six each, and Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthsh­ire, Conwy, Wrexham, Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend all with five apiece.

Ceredigion had four new cases, while Powys, Torfaen and Merthyr Tydfil had two each.
