A PUB-GOER left a man scarred for life after she hit him in the face with a glass.

Jessica McMillan, 23, had been drinking with a group of friends in a Newport pub on August 1, 2019, Cardiff Crown Court heard yesterday.

Among the group was the victim – Ryan Davies – whom she had not met until that night.

The court was told McMillan was seen on CCTV talking to Mr Davies before losing her temper.

At yesterday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins told McMillan: “You lashed out at Mr Davies. In your hand at the time was a glass which struck his face with some force.”

It left Mr Davies needing 27 stitches. Mr Davies read a victim statement to the court, in which he described the attack as having a huge impact on his life, leaving him with a scar on his face which he will live with for the rest of his live.

He said the incident led him to losing his job, and led to a breakdown in his relationship with his former partner and mother of his son.

He said he had lost his self confidence and hides his scar with facial hair, which he believes has resulted in him being unable to find full time employment since the attack.

Mr Davies added that he feels fearful in public and avoids places with large crowds of people, as well as public transport.

McMillan pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding with intent, and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful wounding at a hearing in February.

In mitigation, defence David Pinnell stressed this was McMillan’s first offence, described it as out of character and said she was at low risk of re-offending.

Judge Jenkins sentenced McMillan, of Dunn Square, Newport, to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

McMillan was also made subject to an 18-month community order and will have to pay a victim surcharge.
