Three new deaths as cases rise by just 53

THERE were three new deaths with coronaviru­s reported in Wales yesterday amid just 53 new positive cases.

And seven regions of Wales had no new Covid cases at all.

The latest cases revealed in data published by Public Health Wales means Wales has now seen a total of 210,397 cases since the pandemic began.

The total number of lab-confirmed coronaviru­s deaths in Wales stands at 5,531.

The infection rate across Wales has fallen again and now stands at 17.6 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days leading up to April 6, a drop from 18.7 on Saturday.

All of Wales’ local authoritie­s are now reporting fewer than 35 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 6.

Meanwhile, the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2%, a fall from 2.2% yesterday and way below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,572,752 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 525,177 people have had both doses.

Cardiff reported the most new cases yesterday with 12, followed by Swansea and Newport with five. RCT had four with Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham, Carmathens­hire and Powys all seeing three. Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly­had two each and Conwy, the Vale and Bridgend had just one.
