Two more deaths and 105 more test positive

TWO more people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales, according to the latest figures yesterday.

New data published by Public Health Wales (PHW) reported a further 105 new positive coronaviru­s cases, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 210,681.

The total number of lab-confirmed coronaviru­s deaths in Wales remains at 5,535.

The infection rate across Wales now stands at 17.4 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days leading up to April 10, a slight drop from 17.6 on Wednesday.

All of Wales’ local authoritie­s are now reporting fewer than 35 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 10. Cardiff, Anglesey and Swansea have the highest rates at 31.6, 28.6 and 27.9 respective­ly.

Meanwhile the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now down to 1.9%, significan­tly below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,640,045 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 559,888 people have had both doses. Earlier this week Wales became the first UK nation to give a first dose of a vaccine to more than half its population.

Swansea reported the most cases yesterday with 17, followed by Newport with 14, Rhondda Cynon Taf with 12, Neath Port Talbot with 11 and Cardiff with 10.

Powys had seven new cases, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham had six each and Vale of Glamorgan had five.

Denbighshi­re had three new cases, and Torfaen, Conwy, Carmarthen­shire, Ceredigion and Pembrokesh­ire each had once case.

Six local authoritie­s had no new cases including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthsh­ire, Anglesey, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil.
