Barber shops shut down over regulation breaches
THREE barber shops in Cardiff have been ordered to shut over coronavirus breaches.
The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) gave improvement notices to two barbers on City Road and one on Wellfield Road.
All three were shut down for failing to provide or require the use of protective equipment.
Officers have the power to temporarily shut down businesses if they are found breaking coronavirus regulations.
Enforcement officers handed Route 66 Barbers on Wellfield Road a closure notice on Wednesday.
Documents show the notice was made after they were found “failing to take reasonable measures which limit close face to face interaction as you have not provided or required the use of personal protective equipment”.
The notice is in place until Sunday, April 18.
Nearby, A to Z Barbers on City Road was also handed a closure notice for the same reason.
Officers issued the order on Tuesday and it remains in place until today.
Also on City Road, The Joker barber shop was handed a closure notice on the same day.
The enforcement officer noted again that they had failed to provided or required the use of personal protective equipment.
The closure notice remains in place until today.
It comes as Cardiff currently has the highest infection rate in Wales.
All of Wales’ local authorities are now reporting fewer than 35 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 10.
Cardiff has the highest rate at
31.6 and saw 10 new cases reported yesterday.
Just like the rest of Wales, the capital is seeing the downward trend in cases continue since the second peak of the virus exhausted the health service earlier this year.
According to the latest data, Cardiff has not reported more than 50 cases in one day since February and has yet to record more than 20 cases in a day in April.
While the infection rate per 100,000 people has dropped dramatically since the second peak of the virus earlier this year, Cardiff is still one of the areas worst affected by the virus.
To compare, on December 31, 2020, the rate per 100,000 people in Cardiff stood at 453.3. Just over a month later on February 1 it had more than halved at 140.4 and by March 1 it had halved again to 71.4 per 100,000.
By March 14 this had dropped to 33.5 but the infection rate has remained at around 30 per 100,000 people for several weeks. On April 14 the infection rate for Cardiff was 31.3 – one of the highest in Wales.
