Dinosaurs’ activities snuffed out by attackers
A GROUP of dinosaurs will no longer be roaming the streets of South Wales after claiming they were “set upon” with punches and kicks over the weekend.
The “Dino Saw” group have become a familiar sight in Newport during lockdown thanks to their antics, particularly in their home stomping ground of St Julians.
But, posting on social media over the weekend, the group announced it would not be continuing with regular visits around the community for the foreseeable future.
“Unfortunately the Dino Saws had to cut their adventure short,” said lead dinosaur Stomp on Saturday.
The group said it felt it necessary to take the decision to go back into hibernation for the time being given recent threats to their safety.
Stomp said the dinosaurs had been out in St Julians on Saturday when they were approached by a group of people who became physical.
“Stomp, Dash and Mini-Rex were set upon by two different groups,” said Stomp, discussing the incident.
“Stomp and Dash were both punched and booted several times. Luckily we were able to keep young Mini-Rex safe.”
They added that the incident was particularly frightening given the fact that Mini-Rex is just a young boy himself, and that the group will not be going out in public until they feel safe again.
“It’s only a small minority of individuals but the experience we endured on Saturday wasn’t a very pleasant one especially as one of the Dinos was a young lad himself,” said Stomp.
The Dino Saws have put a smile on the faces of people near and far after beginning their antics back in January.
The group has been spotted wandering around the streets of Newport, with sightings of the reptiles regularly being posted to social media.
Originally, the group’s intention was to brighten up lockdown for the local community, especially for children, but media appearances brought them international praise.
“The support from within the community has been overwhelming even though we’ve managed to hide our identities for so long which has made this even more fun.
“Hopefully we’ll be back soon.”
