TRIBUTES have been paid to an “always smiling” mum who has died from a brain tumour.

Claire Adams, 50, from Ferndale, died earlier this year from an aggressive tumour following a two-year battle.

Now her family and friends are determined to continue Claire’s memory and live life as Claire did, with a positive attitude.

The mum-of-one was described by her husband of 30 years, John Adams, 53, as “always smiling”.

He said: “She was always positive. Claire would do anything for anyone. She was well-liked and respected and it showed by the turnout on Sunday. She will be greatly missed.”

Even after Claire’s diagnosis in 2019, just nine days later Claire was at the London Marathon to support her husband.

He added: “Claire decided and I agreed that after her diagnosis we would live our lives the way we had been to move forward with the best mentality for her treatment.”

Chair of the Rhondda Valley Runners and friend of Claire, Dawne Meynell-Western, said: “Even through her treatment she continued to support us as runners. Even when she wasn’t feeling well she continued to support other people.

“She was always so supportive she just didn’t have a self-pity mode.”

Claire was described as courageous and strong and loved life, she had been out with friends and family up to the weekend before she died.

At the end of October 2020, Claire had brain surgery but not two weeks later had her running shoes back on to run the 10K Richard Burton run.

For as long as she was able, Claire enjoyed being active, she ran her last run in January 2021.

Claire was a member of many local groups.

Friends of Claire from the Saturday morning cake crew said: “She was a light that glowed and made you feel loved, cared for and important. She was always in the moment with you, always a voice of reason, compassionate and understanding.

“Claire made us a better person when we were around her. She was quick to laugh, slow to anger.

“A gentle soul, instantly loved by all who met her. Simply put there was no other like her.”

Joanne Ryan, 48, a friend of Claire’s, said: “A wonderful smile that could light up any room. She was such a wonderful person more like a sisterfriend councillor to us all, she always had a listening ear and always nonjudgemental.

“She made the gruelling journey to

Snowdonia in 2019 to support the Snowdonia marathon Eryri runners even though she wasn’t well enough to participate herself, she waited at the finish line for us all to complete it and cheer us in. She will forever be in our hearts and the angel on our shoulder.”

Four local clubs that Claire was a proud member of have joined together to raise money for a worthy cause in her memory. The Rhondda Valleys Runners, The Bike Doctor,

Rhondda Tri Club and Walk More, Worry Less groups have all rallied together to create one group, Together as one, to raise funds for Velindre Cancer Centre in Claire’s memory.
