Solar panels need to be in right place

-

SOME while back a solar panel park was built in a field adjacent to the Golden Well restaurant in Cowbridge Road.

Although this is a magnificent achievement and we all win – against climate change and environmental destruction – I have a criticism.

This is that the panels were erected on the ground – this is a serious design flaw. Solar panels should be built on the roofs of buildings for reasons of space , economy and ethics of town planning.

In order to justify the panels a warehouse or building should have

The small print: Letters will not be included unless you include your name, full postal address and daytime telephone number (we prefer to use names of letter writers but you can ask for your name not to be published if you have a good reason). The Green Party policy is to build solar panels on all hospital roofs if elected (as well as green buses built in Wales).

The warehouse or other building could be turned to social use or gifted to a business which we respect, or used as infrastructure – supply side economics to combat recession and poverty. If we put boffins round a table, I’m sure we could reason through this; for example, where we locate the raw materials and labour.

Our artistic and spiritual needs could also be catered for – maybe the warehouse could be used as a theatre or housing the homeless. Mr J Bucke
