Grant enables church hall to get connected to water mains

-

A SMALL church hall on the outskirts of Cardiff is preparing to make a splash – after receiving a grant to connect to the mains water supply for the first time.

Fundraisers at the parish of Pentyrch & Capel Llanilltern are celebrating after receiving £1,000 to carry out upgrades to St Ellteyrn’s Church Hall on Llantrisant Road.

The money comes from housebuilder Persimmon Homes through its Community Champions scheme. Each and every month Persimmon donates up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK.

Persimmon is currently building new homes nearby at The Parish @ Llanilltern Village.

Linda Davies, a fundraiser for St Ellteyrn’s Church, said: “We’re really grateful for this generous donation. The hall is used both by the church and by the community. The village is now rapidly growing and we’d like it to be used even more.

“At the moment, we don’t have any mains water or sewerage. We’ve applied to the water board and it’s going to cost just over £1,500 to get us connected.

“We raised £300 pre-Covid through a Harvest Lunch, which we have put aside for this work. With this money from Persimmon, we’re almost at our target.”

Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to support St Ellteyrn’s Church Hall. This is a busy and well-used facility for the community. Introducing mains water supply is the first step towards this facility being used to its full potential.

“We are committed to supporting the wider community in the cities, towns and villages in which we are building, and this is another example of that.”

The Parish @ Llanilltern Village is a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
