Bargain-basement homes for buyers with time and energy

- ROBERT DALLING Reporter rob.dalling@walesonline.co.uk

THE property market is red hot at the moment, with prices for most houses coming at a bigger premium than you may have seen years ago for buyers.

It means people looking to take their first step onto the property ladder are looking at significantly higher prices as of late, with many being forced to put their plans on hold and save for a little bit longer to get the house of their dreams.

But as long as you don’t mind a bit of hard work and putting a bit of investment in, there are some bargain homes to be purchased around Wales at the moment.

Ranging from £20,000 to £50,000, we have found some houses to buy at rock-bottom prices.

So if your budget is limited and you fancy taking on a bit of a project and putting a bit of TLC into a property, these opportunities may be exactly what you’re looking for.

Ty’r Felin Street, Mountain Ash – £40,000

This is a three-bedroom terrace property that is in need of modernisation, but is said by estate agents Peter Alan to have the makings of a “great family home”.

It comprises an entrance hallway, lounge, dining-room, kitchen and utility room, while the first floor has three good-size bedrooms and family bathroom.

Brook Place, Pentre, Rhondda, Cynon Taf – £45,000

This one-bedroom home is an endterrace property in a desirable location, and is described as the “perfect investment opportunity”.

It benefits from “spectacular views” of St Peter’s Church and the surrounding valley, and is regarded as a renovation project, with the potential to be extended.

The ground floor comprises an open-plan lounge and kitchen area, with a bathroom and utility space to the rear; a traditional cottage-style staircase leads to the upper floor, which has been stripped back to the original stonework.

Outside, a large concreted space could be used for parking or converted into a garage.
