Mum’s live-saving little heroes

A MUM has shared her pride in her two sons’ brave actions after she had a seizure.

Ria Griffiths, from Maesteg, suffered a seizure on Saturday, November 6, after becoming stressed at children throwing fireworks at her door.

When she eventually came to, she was informed her boys, Charlie, aged seven, and Harris, four, had potentially saved her life with a call to the emergency services.

“I don’t remember anything,” the 25-year-old mum explained. “I just remember the police and ambulance explaining to me how brave my children had been, and praising them.

“There are no words to describe how proud I am.”

After Ria began having a seizure, her sons couldn’t wake her up. Thankfully, Charlie knew to call 999 and he informed the emergency operator that his mummy wasn’t waking up.

Unfortunately, the family had moved three days prior, and Charlie hadn’t learned his new home address.

Ria explained how, instead of panicking, Charlie thought to call his mum’s friend instead, to ask her where they lived. His quick thinking could have potentially saved his mum’s life, as paramedics had to perform chest compressions upon arrival.

“I do suffer with seizures, but never this bad, because this was at the point where I had to have chest compressions.”

Charlie also had the added pressure of keeping his little brother Harris calm while this all went on.

“He was absolutely petrified and kept asking: ‘Is mummy going to die’?”

After speaking on the phone with Charlie, Ria’s friend was able to rush up to the house and continue the 999 call until the emergency services arrived.

Ria was then taken to hospital while the boys stayed with their grandma, though Charlie was keen to check in on his mum via the phone until he knew she was OK.

“I just keep telling them, you do realise how proud you have made me, and he’s just like ‘I had to do it mam,’” Ria said.

Thankfully, Ria is now back home and recovering with the support of her family.
