More arrested after city centre ‘stabbing’

DETECTIVES investigat­ing an alleged stabbing in Cardiff city centre have made four arrests in total.

Two people were taken to hospital with stab wounds after a St Mary Street disturbanc­e on the evening of Friday, November 5.

Ivan Ania Hernandez, 19, from Cathays, was arrested that weekend and appeared at Cardiff Magistrate­s’ Court the following Monday, charged with wounding one person with intent and possession of a knife.

Now South Wales Police have confirmed three other arrests. A 17-year-old from Butetown was arrested on suspicion of affray after being released from hospital following treatment for a stab wound. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

A 19-year-old from Adamsdown and a second 17-year-old from Butetown were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been released on conditiona­l bail pending further inquiries.

Hernandez is yet to enter a plea to his charges. He is remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing, which will be at Cardiff Crown Court on December 6.

The disturbanc­e took place at around 4.30pm on November 5, near the entrance to Cardiff Market. It led to a large area of the city centre being cordoned off by police.

Armed officers were called and a cordon remained in place until the following morning. Two people received hospital treatment for non-lifethreat­ening injuries.
