More arrested after city centre ‘stabbing’
DETECTIVES investigating an alleged stabbing in Cardiff city centre have made four arrests in total.
Two people were taken to hospital with stab wounds after a St Mary Street disturbance on the evening of Friday, November 5.
Ivan Ania Hernandez, 19, from Cathays, was arrested that weekend and appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court the following Monday, charged with wounding one person with intent and possession of a knife.
Now South Wales Police have confirmed three other arrests. A 17-year-old from Butetown was arrested on suspicion of affray after being released from hospital following treatment for a stab wound. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
A 19-year-old from Adamsdown and a second 17-year-old from Butetown were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.
Hernandez is yet to enter a plea to his charges. He is remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing, which will be at Cardiff Crown Court on December 6.
The disturbance took place at around 4.30pm on November 5, near the entrance to Cardiff Market. It led to a large area of the city centre being cordoned off by police.
Armed officers were called and a cordon remained in place until the following morning. Two people received hospital treatment for non-lifethreatening injuries.
