Man arrested after crash left road worker seriously hurt

-

A 24-YEAR-OLD man who was working on the road has been left with “life-changing” injuries following a serious crash on the A465 Head of the Valleys road.

Police have arrested a 37-yearold, from the Merthyr Tydfil area, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

The collision happened following a police pursuit at around 12.10pm on Monday, on the A465, near Tredegar.

The police watchdog (Independent Office for Police Conduct) has been contacted also as police were in pursuit prior to the collision, though the police vehicle was not involved in the crash.

The 24-year-old was airlifted to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he received treatment for injuries to his head and leg. He was yesterday described as being in a “stable” condition, but with injuries that were believed to be life-changing.

Traffic was stopped in both directions following Monday’s collision to allow Wales Air Ambulance to access the scene, and the eastbound carriageway remained closed for almost six hours.

Gwent Police have released the 37-year-old man under investigation, and have asked anyone with information, such as dashcam footage, that could assist officers to come forward.
