Success for Sommerin with ‘immersive experience’ at Home

-

JAMES Sommerin’s new dining experience, Home, has been added to the Michelin Guide for 2022.

Home, on Penarth’s Stanwell Road, offers an immersive experience for diners who have to ring a doorbell to enter the venue, which has blacked-out windows. It’s a proud family affair, as the cooking is done in an open kitchen by James and his daughter Georgia.

The opening of Home comes after the success of The Shed at Barry’s

Good Shed and, before that, a tough year which saw his original Penarth restaurant with rooms close and made Michelin star-chef James question whether he wanted to run a restaurant again.

Back in August, the Michelin Guide added The Shed to the 2022 edition in the first of the monthly announcements about new additions.

James Sommerin told us: “We’re over the moon. We’re a small, family team here and it’s just amazing news. Again, after the past 18/20 months it’s a huge positive move forward.

“I respect Michelin hugely, it’s great they are supporting places and coming out to inspect.”

The Michelin Guide had this to say about Home, which was one of 12 new additions this month to the 2022 Guide: “’Home’ means so many different things to different people – but one constant is a feeling of comfort and care.

“During lockdown James Sommerin and his family threw themselves into preparing meals for the NHS – but now he and his wife Louise have their own restaurant once again and they deserve every bit of success.

“You can expect an immersive experience, complete with a surprise tasting menu. Wales should be as proud of this restaurant as any Josh Adams try.”
