Nine more deaths recorded

NINE more people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New data published yesterday, which covers the 24-hour period up to 9am on Wednesday, shows the Covid-related death toll in Wales is now 6,377.

There were also 2,377 new positive cases recorded in the latest update, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 498,101.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 20) now stands at 499.9 – a drop from the 502 reported on Wednesday. It’s the first time since the seven days up to November 12 that the infection rate has fallen below 500.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales remains Gwynedd with 854.2 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Vale of Glamorgan with 661 and Monmouthsh­ire with 574.1.

The test positivity rate across Wales is at 18%, a fall from the 18.1% reported on Wednesday.

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of new Covid cases are Cardiff with 245, Swansea with 172, Rhondda Cynon Taf with 171, Carmarthen­shire with 169, Vale of Glamorgan with 153, Gwynedd with 142 and Pembrokesh­ire with 127.

Meanwhile Caerphilly had 118 new cases, Bridgend had 114, Flintshire had 105, Powys had 93, Wrexham had 88, Neath Port Talbot had 80, Torfaen had 73, Anglesey had 69, Conwy had 68, Newport had 67, Denbighshi­re had 66, and Monmouthsh­ire had 60.

The local authoritie­s with the lowest number of cases were Merthyr Tydfil with 43, Blaenau Gwent with 39, and Ceredigion with 27.

As of Wednesday there were 587 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronaviru­s (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a fall on the 614 reported the previous day. There were 54 people in a ventilated intensive care bed with Covid-19 on November 23, the same figure as reported the day before.

The latest data showed that 2,465,562 people had received one dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine and 2,260,038 had been given both doses.

To date 765,875 people have received their Covid booster vaccine according to PHW.
