10 die and 3,969 test positive

A further 10 people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New data published yesterday, which covers the 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday, shows the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales now stands at 6,401.

There were also 3,969 new positive cases recorded in the latest update bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 506,960.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 24) now stands at 476.7 – a drop from the 491.4 reported on Sunday.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales remains Gwynedd with 862.2 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Vale of Glamorgan with 661.7 and Anglesey with 601.1.

The test positivity rate across Wales is at 17%, a fall from 17.86% reported on Sunday.

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of new Covid cases in the latest 24-hour period are Cardiff with 531, Gwynedd with 284, RCT with 248, Newport with 224, Vale of Glamorgan and Swansea both with 218, and Caerphilly with 208.

Meanwhile Carmarthen­shire had 192 new cases, Bridgend had 190, Powys had 167, Flintshire had 166, Wrexham had 164, Pembrokesh­ire had 153, Neath Port Talbot had 130, Monmouthsh­ire had 126, Conwy had 125 and Torfaen had 123.

The local authoritie­s with the lowest number of cases were Anglesey with 91, Blaenau Gwent with 90, Denbighshi­re with 74, Merthyr Tyfil with 54 and Ceredigion 48.

As of November 26 there were 567 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronaviru­s (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a drop on the 589 reported on November 25.

There were 47 people in a ventilated intensive care bed with Covid-19 on November 23, a fall on the 52 reported the day before.

The latest data showed that 2,468,335 people had received one dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine and 2,263,540 had been given both doses.

To date 825,474 people have received their Covid booster vaccine according to PHW, including more than three-quarters of care home residents (81.1%) and over 80s (79.7%), over two-thirds of healthcare workers (72.8%) and over half of all care home workers (62.8%).
