Golden Lion FC ran out 3-1 winners in a closely contested match against John Davey Builders in the Everson Sports First Division.

The Builders were missing concussed centre half Alex Roberts and his defensive partner Kevin Baker due to injury.

Lion took a very early lead when Andy Cayford found himself out wide on the right hand side to send a low cross in for Matt Poland to finish on his weaker left foot.

Lion had a few more chances in the half, but Builders also applied plenty of pressure until half time with the score still at 1-0, with Lion keeper Tamas Jablonkai making some smart saves.

Lion scored early again in the second half, through the same two danger men, Cayford again finding Poland who drilled a low right footed shot into the net from a tight angle.

Colin Ashton came out of goal in the second half to pull a goal back for the Builders finishing well on the turn from close range.

Great club servant, Nolan Renwick, volunteered to go in goal for the Builders and he kept his team in the game with a series of brave saves.

Builders then applied more pressure, but Lion centre backs Griffiths and Nash kept them out with help from defensive midfielder Mike Medley.

With twenty minutes left a Poland corner was flicked on by Medley for Lewis Nash to finish from close range to make it 3-1.

The rest of the second half was tightly contested with both teams putting in the work, but Lion managed to withhold more late pressure from Builders to make it two wins in a row.

In the Carling Premier Division, Locksmiths opened up a four point lead at the top after their 2-1 win over Plough Albion at Eastern Leisure centre.

The Locksmiths started on the front foot with the majority of the possession passing the ball well but couldn’t take their early chances.

Locksmiths gave away a cheap free-kick on the halfway line which was fumbled in the box and converted by striker Benjamin Carey to give Plough a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Locksmiths proceeded to have the ball but could not covert their chances.

The Locksmiths levelled the scoring with Sam Price pressuring the defender on the counter attack making it 1-1.

The Locksmiths pushed on with Alex Smith winning the ball back passing the ball down the line to Brandon Slattery who squared the ball into the centre to

Sam Burns who calmly controlled the ball and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

The Locksmiths continued their unbeaten run, but it wasn’t an easy challenge against the Plough.
