Still chance of some ‘very windy spells’

-

AS A yellow weather warning comes to an end, the Met Office are forecasting a highly unpredictable week or so, with a possibility of some “very windy spells”.

Going into the first weekend of December, Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin says to expect further wintry hazards such as sleet, ice, and “a little bit of snow likely too”.

The majority of Wales will face a chilly weekend, with the odd patch of milder weather bringing moisture that could cause sleet and snow in parts.

Alex said most of next week however is hard to predict, but said: “Things could get lively, there is the possibility of a windy spell of weather.

He added: “How that develops will detect the type of weather we get for much of next week.”

This is all due to developing areas of low pressure and where they move over the coming days.

Dips in a jet stream of fastmoving air are “breeding grounds for areas of low pressure”, according to the forecaster.

He said it’s the high energy of the jet stream that’s causing so much uncertainty as the week progresses.

There is a “really deep area of low pressure to the west of the UK,” according to an American weather model.

This area of low pressure is also seen on the European model which predicts “something really quite powerful at this stage, still out to the west of the UK.”

The movement of this low pressure could bring in the “really cold air across Scandinavia.”

However, an alternate prediction from the American weather model suggests milder, wetter weather into next week.

Alex explained there is “unusually low confidence” in which way the weather will go next week, but stressed the potential for a “very windy spell”, which many may want to keep a close eye on.
