Canton Libs stay unbeaten

-

CANTON Libs remain unbeaten after a 3-2 win away to Cuesaders Z moved them into fourth place in the Cardiff & District Snooker League (sponsored by Trecenydd Snooker Club) with a game in hand on those teams above them.

Wins for James Facey and Declan O’Callaghan gave them an early lead before Dave Reynolds beat Rory Wigmore to make it 2-1.

Paul Chichester then levelled things with a win over Ed Topham, but a lack of a fifth player for Cuesaders gave the win to James Wigmore’s side.

Fairwater Cons extended their lead at the top of the table with a closely-fought 3-2 win over Trecenydd Snooker, with Ben Griffiths winning the opener to maintain his perfect record at the top of the individual rankings, followed by victory for Terry Garland to make it 2-0.

An unassailable 3-0 lead looked likely when Steffan Davies was 27 up on the yellow against Mike Pardoe, but a dramatic finish saw Davies send the white in-off on the black giving Trecenydd a way back into the match. Shaun O’Connell then beat Michelle Emery to seal the win before Chris Garwood cleared the colours to win the last and make it 3-2 to Fairwater.

The result of the week took place at Cathays Cons who registered a resounding 4-1 win over struggling Savoy to move into third.

The Barry side had a strong line-up with two-time Cardiff Open Singles winner Ryan Rowlands opening, but inform Dave Earls gave his side the perfect start with a win on the colours, before Mark Bennett levelled things with a win over Dave Standage.

Dan Jones regained the lead with a win over Colin Lane and wins for Martyn Evans against Jason Summerhayes and Darren Gill over Jeff Lane gave Cathays a 4-1 win.
