Chancellor Sunak a socialist in disguise?

-

IS RISHI Sunak the most socialist Chancellor of the Exchequer in this nation’s history?

I ask because during the lockdowns he handed out billions of pounds to pay people to do nothing (the popular furlough scheme) – even Jeremy Corbyn would have struggled to come up with that idea.

More recently he has imposed a windfall tax on oil and gas companies in an attempt to raise £5bn a year to tackle the cost of living crisis. Again, not a traditionally Conservative approach to finances.

With inflation rampant and people feeling the pinch due to rocketing energy bills, Mr Sunak gave the nod for a one-off payment of £650 to eight million households who are on means-tested benefits, while pensioners who qualify for the winter fuel payment will get an additional £300. Those who are disabled will receive an extra £150.

The result is that the poorest households will be receiving more than £1,000 in additional support. Who said the Conservatives didn’t care for the less well off?

Not surprisingly the tax burden is at its highest for 70 years.

All these handouts are very generous, but as Mrs Thatcher once said “socialism’s great until you run out of other people’s money”.

My fear is that the UK Government has already run out of other people’s money.

Cwmbran and which he is visiting next week? Oh dear, I hope the Rwandans have short memories for HRH’s visit.

It’s also a pity that the Archbishop of Canterbury doesn’t adhere to his calling of Christian ethics in this supposedly Christian country. A statement has been made by Rwanda’s Information Minister that they are ready to seize economic, political, cultural and other opportunities with the Commonwealth network.

The Rwandan Government has hit back at “insulting” criticism of the plans to relocate migrants from the UK. A Rwandan official spokesperson has stated they are helping the UK as a Commonwealth member in saving the lives of people who make the dangerous journey from France to the UK, with hundreds already having lost their lives. Perhaps HRH and the Archbishop of Canterbury would consider joining forces to sail such a dangerous sea in making sure the migrants are safe instead of making derogatory remarks about a Commonwealth country that is seeking people who will progress their country as previously mentioned – economically, politically, culturally, etc.

Let’s not forget that migrants will be housed in “posh” accommodation and not in former prison camps from yesteryear where migrants have vehemently complained.

Let’s not forget that migrants will be housed in ‘posh’ accommodation and not in former prison camps...
