Views sought on proposals to build huge new solar farm
MEMBERS of the public are once again being asked for their views on plans for a huge new solar farm in the Vale of Glamorgan after a draft application for the proposed development was released for the first time.
Cenin, the company behind the proposal, is setting up a state-ofthe-art digital public exhibition as part of its consultation into the solar farm before officially submitting its application to the Welsh Government.
A draft application was made public on Monday.
The solar farm, Parc Dyffryn, which has been proposed for land between St Nicholas and Downs to the south west of Cardiff, would produce 682.5Gw of electricity every year if approved – the equivalent total power required for over 20,000 homes each year.
Director of Cenin, Martyn Popham said: “Long-term efficient and clean energy use and supply is important locally and to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Welsh Government’s plans for net zero carbon emissions.
“All of our energy projects are carefully designed by our team to minimise impact on the land.
“We carefully consider the existing flora and fauna on the site and allow it to thrive further.”
The Bridgend-based company already reached out to members of the public for their views on the plans earlier this year but is now proposing to further its consultation. As it would be considered a project of national significance, the application for Parc Dyffryn will be considered by the Welsh Government.
However, Cenin has engaged with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and community councils over its proposals.
The consultation on the draft application closes on August 1.
