Council amends park notice after detail error
A COUNCIL has corrected a notice proposing to transfer land at a popular park in Cardiff following criticism from residents over an error in the original notice.
Residents in Llandaff North were angered to find out on May 27 that an advert had been placed in the Echo for the disposal of 59,000 square metres of land at Hailey Park, but all was not as it seemed.
Cardiff Council later clarified that the advert should in fact have referred to 1,500 square metres of land – not 59,000 square metres.
A new notice from Cardiff Council was put in the Echo on Thursday to clarify that its proposal is for the current changing rooms building at Hailey Park to be transferred through a lease to a sporting club or “other relevant community organisation”.
Referring to the original error, the council’s new advert states: “The council wishes to apologise for this error and for any anguish it may have caused local residents.”
The proposed lease would be offered alongside a Preferred User Agreement for the adjacent playing pitches. The leaseholder would have to invest, maintain and operate the proposed building at Hailey Park as a changing rooms.
The deadline for responding to the original advert was on June 27.
Much to the relief of residents, the council confirmed that the updated notice marks the suspension of that consultation process and the implementation of a new one.
The council’s advert continues: “The Public Notice on May 27, 2022 is no longer relevant to Hailey Park.
“Instead, the council will undertake a market testing exercise to give all relevant sporting clubs and community organisations an opportunity to bid.
“Details of the market testing exercise will be made available through the council’s website and social media channels in due course.
“Any organisation wishing to register their interest in advance of the process being published are welcome to contact the council through propinfo@cardiff.gov.uk.”
