Band all fired up at stadium show
THE Principality Stadium has seen a fair bit of action recently, hosting Ed Sheeran, Tom Jones and the Stereophonics for their gigs.
On Thursday evening, however, the temperature was cranked up to a new level, leaving Cardiff residents puzzled by the sight of the Principality Stadium seemingly on fire.
Thankfully, it was due to controlled and safe pyrotechnics for German band Rammstein, but it didn’t stop a few heads turning for those unaware of the concert.
Big orange flames could be seen flowing out of the top of the stadium, followed by thick black smoke.
Those inside the stadium probably wouldn’t be surprised by the pictures and videos circulating social media, given they were surrounded by flames, but for those unaware of the gig, it was quite a jarring sight.
The band are well-known for their large-scale performances, with a recent gig in Coventry being heard almost 11 miles away, however that didn’t mean they held back for their Cardiff performance.
Shane Andrews shared his pictures on social media, highlighting the scale of the pyrotechnics along the Cardiff skyline.
For fans who had travelled from across the world, however, the show more than made up for the two-year wait due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking before the gig, Kitty Lambert, from Hull, said: “They are the best band I’ve ever seen live – it’s not just about the music, but about the experience.
“You’ll sometimes hear people say that in the past they’ve been to their concert just because a family member or a friend needed someone to go with them, and they absolutely loved it – they might not be fan of the music, but they absolutely loved the experience.
“My mum doesn’t like metal, but
she’ll still come to the concerts.”
Her friend Alex Hewitt said: “For people that don’t know anything about Rammstein, I would say it’s German industrial heavy metal music.
“The only thing I can compare it to is if you were to put your mobile phone into a washing machine, sang over the top of it and autotuned it a little bit – that’s what it sounds like!”
Others we spoke to had travelled from Plymouth, Dublin and Germany.
