New tennis courts among plans decided on by council

PLANS to restore historic buildings, proposals for new tennis courts and a vision for educational dinosaur walks are just some of the applications that were recently decided on by Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Here are some of the stand out planning applications made to and decided by the council over the past couple of weeks.

■ Penarth

A major bank in Penarth could be set to close.

An application has been made to the Vale Council for the closure of Natwest on Plymouth Road and the removal of its external marketing and ATM.

All existing original features will not be affected by the proposed works.

One development that has been approved for Penarth is a proposal to install an 18 metre high 5G mast.

The mast will be located on Marconi Avenue at the roundabout near the Oystercatcher.

Earlier this week, plans to restore Penarth’s historic yacht club building on The Esplanade were also approved.

The proposal included plans to remove the false ceilings and ventilation ducts installed in the 1970s and 80s and restore the historic ceilings, beams and windows.

The building itself dates back to the 1880s.

Another restoration project in Penarth, this time a grade II listed historic school building dating back to 1868, was given the go ahead this week.

Plans to restore NCH Headlands School on St Augustines Road were approved by the Vale Council.

The proposal includes plans to extend the school to provide it with additional accommodation.

■ Barry

An application for four homes to be built on an empty piece of land in Barry has been put forward.

The four three bedroom homes have been proposed for an empty plot of land at the western end of Gilbert Street.

■ Fonmon

A medieval village events space and a dedicated educational dinosaur walk is set for Fonmon Castle near Rhoose.

The application, approved by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, also includes plans for a new overflow car parking area, children’s play area and an outdoor seating area.

The events at the medieval village will take place in the format of ‘small encampments’ – this will include small tents and performances.

■ Cowbridge

Plans for two new all weather tennis courts at Cowbridge Leisur3 Centre have been given the green light. The plans also propose two new lighting columns and two new lighting heads to the existing columns along the eastern side of the existing courts.
