Police appeal after man dies following M4 incident
A MAN has died following an incident on the M4 in Cardiff in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The incident happened at around 4.22am at junction 30 of the M4 at Cardiff Gate.
Emergency services including the police were called to the scene and the road was closed for investigation work to be carried out. It reopened at around 1pm.
The incident, coupled with a crash near Newport, caused heavy traffic for motorists including one and a half miles of congestion to the Cardiff Gate junction.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said the force was grateful for people’s “patience and understanding”.
She said the man’s family have been informed of his death and inquiries are ongoing.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident near junction 30 of the M4 earlier today, with multiple resources sent to the scene.”
The crash on the M4 at Newport took place on the westbound carriageway between Coldra and Caerleon junctions at around 8am. The road from junctions 24 to 25 was closed until 4.45pm while accident investigation work took place. Motorists were diverted to the A48 Southern Distributor Road through Newport which was caused congestion.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent multiple resources to the scene. No more details were given.
Meanwhile, on Saturday a car was in collision with a stationary police vehicle at around 5.10pm near the M4 in Newport.
The officer’s vehicle was on the junction 25 interchange roundabout.
Gwent Police said the collision involved a grey Seat Leon.
