WEBCHAT Row brewing over whether Drakeford’s holiday chalet is a second home

-

Caravans, lodges, chalets, etc have restrictions and time limitations. It would be madness to class them as second homes. They bring in money to Wales and the local economy which second homes don’t.

Maureen Wilde

So its not OK for a Welshman to own a Welsh chalet, but it’s fine for Russian oligarchs to own multi-million-pound houses in London that they stay in now and again!!! Worlds gone mad! Elaine Cole Saunders

A home seems to be defined as somewhere that can be occupied all year round. The chalet cannot. Him giving up the chalet would not mean that people would be able to stay there all year round. It would not help with homelessness.

Now if the Welsh government were to change the rules to allow year-long occupation that would be different.

Laura Rees

Almost every family I know has a chalet somewhere in Wales that they rent out!!

Karen Cannon

I have a static caravan in Scotland, it is not a second home and I’m not depriving a local person of a house. Same applies to Mark Drakeford.

Arfon Jones

Can’t stand the man or his policies but anyone in their right mind can see this chalet his family has owned for many years is not a second home.

Michelle Louise Bradford

I can’t stand this man, I think he’s been a disaster for Wales, but that doesn’t mean his holiday chalet is a second home. On the other hand I think all those members in the Senedd should declare if they have a second home.

Paul Robinson

A permanent structure that you own and you reside in for periods of the year isn’t a second home because?

Damian Clode

I suppose my touring caravan left on a site in England for seven months should be classed as a second home as well?
