Replace Prime Minister with rotating president
NOW Boris Johnson has resigned as Tory leader, after in effect being forced out of office, his successor should call an early general election.
The downfall of the UK Government due to the resignation of ministers on devolved issues such as health and education proves why we now need an English parliament. Roles like health, education and culture secretary should not be UK cabinet positions – they should be devolved, along with the ministerial posts underneath them.
The UK Prime Minister should be replaced with a rotating president selected from the leaders of the UK’s legislatures and the cabinet they lead made up of those Secretaries of State with a UK-wide or international presence. The Upper House could consist of all ministers from the UK cabinet and UK legislatures and the Lower House those legislatures’ non-ministerial members. The House of Lords could scrutinise all legislatures, not just Westminster.
The role of UK Prime Minister has had its day and the First Lord of the Treasury should be as symbolic a role as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

WHY is the Welsh Government so keen to avoid scrutiny? I see from reading the Western Mail (July 2) that there are calls for a nationwide independent inquiry into children’s services in Wales following the horrific murder of five-year-old Logan Mwangi by his mother, stepfather and 14-yearold stepbrother.
Such a nationwide review is taking place in England in relation to the murders of Arthur LabinjoHughes, six, and one-year-old Star Hobson, but so far First Minister Mark Drakeford has resisted this approach.
We also know of course that the Welsh Government has so far shied away from having a Wales-only inquiry into the Covid pandemic, and is happy for the UK inquiry to cover the Welsh response.
Sorry, but we need our leaders in Cardiff Bay to be more accountable. Jeremy Smith Adamsdown,
