BBC presenters awarded pay rises worth thousands

CARDIFF-BORN TV and radio presenter Jason Mohammad received a £15,000 pay rise last year, BBC figures have confirmed.

Mohammad, the face of the BBC’s Final Score programme, earned a salary of between £285,000 and £289,999, an increase from the £270,000 to £274,999 he received the year before.

The Cardiff City fan also has his own BBC Radio Wales show and is a regular presenter on snooker, as well as the Olympics and Commonweal­th Games.

However, he was only the 20th highest earner in the list of on-air talent, which was topped by Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker for the fifth straight year.

Lineker was the only one to earn a salary exceeding £1m a year. The figures show the 61-year-old was paid between £1,350,000 and £1,354,999 in 2021/2022, which was actually a reduction of £10,000 on his earnings last year.

He remains ahead of Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball, whose salary also slipped for a second consecutiv­e year, dipping below the £1 million mark to a salary of £980,000 to £984,999.

Meanwhile, football pundit Alan Shearer has enjoyed a year-onyear increase of £60,000, bringing his salary to £450,000£454,999, which puts him joint third with Steve Wright, whose salary this year reflects a £15,000 decrease The only new addition to the top 10 is Greg James, whose salary has increased by £80,000 to between £390,000 and £394,999 for work including the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Rewinder on Radio 4 and Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Meanwhile, Bridgend-born news presenter Huw Edwards saw his pay packet fall by £15,000, although he remains in the top 10 with a salary of between £410,000 and £414,999.
