Memory star anne, 8, is on top of the world!
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD whizz kid from Cardiff has become the youngest person ever to correctly recite every single capital city and currency for all 195 countries in the world.
Anne Winston, of Pontprennau Primary School, completed the challenge when she confidently achieved the world record in seven minutes and 15 seconds.
The year three pupil achieved the impressive feat in a live-streamed event organised by OMG Book of World Records.
After beating the 10-year-old girl who held the previous world record Anne was presented with a certificate live on air.
The schoolgirl first developed an interest in the subject when she was just three years old. Her dad would her about the world’s countries when she travelled to and from nursery and then school.
This inspired the youngster to learn more about their capitals and currencies and over four years she taught herself to recite them.
“My learning was quite casual initially on a weekly basis where I used to spend 15 to 20 minutes learning a new set of capitals and currencies. Towards the end I was practising on a daily basis,” said Anne.
She added she was “delighted” to have achieved the world record, which she dedicated to her late grandfather.
“I hope my attempt inspires many other children across the world and makes a positive difference.”
Overjoyed parents Winston Jacob and Jincy Winston said they noticed Anne had a talent for retaining information from a very young age.
“All we did was further feed into that. At no point in our journey till now did we even dream of attempting a world record, let alone achieving it.”
Headteacher at Pontprennau Primary School Ian James added: “Her world record demonstrates her superb memory skills and general knowledge. It is a privilege to have Anne as one of our pupils.”
