Moore gets quizzed over another move for City star McGuinness

DARREN Moore has been quizzed on the possible return of Mark McGuinness to Sheffield Wednesday.

McGuinness, 22, was a huge part of the Owls’ promotion success last term, having enjoyed a stellar halfseason loan with the Hillsborough side before being recalled by Mark Hudson in January.

The Republic of Ireland youth international was a mainstay for the Bluebirds upon his return, helping them avoid relegation down to League One.

Now Wednesday have achieved promotion, there has been speculation that the Owls might move for McGuinness, who, despite having only a year left on his Bluebirds deal, would cost a pretty penny for the Yorkshire club, one suspects.

When quizzed on the possibility of bringing McGuinness back to S6, Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Speaking truthfully, Mark is not somebody that we have spoken about at any great length. In terms of any of the players out there, there are none that we are talking (to) at the moment because I think it is essential that myself and the chairman get together first.

“It is how far we can go with the strategic plan that we have got and how aggressive we can go with that plan at this stage. Once we start getting those messages and answers, we can start putting that physical plan into action.”

REPORTS in France have linked Sabri Lamouchi with a return to France to manage SM Caen.

The Frenchman was let go by Cardiff a fortnight ago after guiding the Championship club to safety, but Vincent Tan has decided to go another way and the Bluebirds are on the lookout for a new boss of their own.

Many believe Lamouchi did enough to earn another contract, however Tan always has the final say and he opted against keeping the 51-year-old on.

Caen are in the second tier of French football and play their final Ligue 2 match tomorrow, away to Pau, which is expected to be Stephane Moulin’s last game as manager. And according to Malherbe Inside, Lamouchi is the hot favourite to take over the club in the north of France.

Quite where that would leave Sol Bamba, whose contract expires at Cardiff at the end of this month, is as yet unknown. Will he follow Lamouchi to his next gig? Or will he decide to stay on when Cardiff appoint a new boss? An intriguing sub-plot to all of this.
