Teenager charged with murder of dad-of-seven
A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of a fatherof-seven from Cardiff.
Corey Gauci, 18, of Wilson Road, Ely, appeared in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with the murder of Colin Richards.
Gauci, dressed in a dark coloured jacket, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
The defendant was held on remand and the case is due to be next heard at Cardiff Crown Court today.
Mr Richards, 48, was found unconscious in Snowden Road, Ely, following a report of a disturbance in the Heol-Y-Berllan and Heol Trelai area of Caerau shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday, April 7.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services Mr Richards died of a stab wound.
In a statement following his death Mr Richards’ family said he was a “much-loved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and an all-round family man”.
“He leaves behind seven children who will miss him greatly as he was very active in their lives,” they said in a tribute.
“Though the loss is deep, the power of love and friendship will always stay alive. He will always be in our minds and forever in our hearts.”
On Monday South Wales Police said a second man, aged 26 and also from Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of murder before being released on bail and then being recalled to prison for breaching his licence conditions.
South Wales Police is still appealing for support with their investigation and have asked anyone who thinks they might have important information to contact them using reference number 2400112146.
The force added that Mr Richards’ family are being support by specially-trained officers.
