Primary school year group to stay off school for 14 days

-

ALL students who form part of a ‘bubble’ at a Llanelli Primary School are self-isolating after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

Parents of those who were in the same ‘bubble’ as the positive case were contacted on Sunday, telling them to keep their children at home for 14 days.

An initial statement, posted on the Ysgol Pen Rhos Twitter page on Sunday evening, said: “We are able to confirm that an individual at the school has tested positive for Covid-19.

“Please be assured that we have robust procedures in place and the Test, Trace, Protect process is being followed.

“All individuals who have been identified as close contacts are being contacted.”

This was updated on Monday morning to confirm that a class is self-isolating.

“All parents in this bubble were called on Sunday night.”

Ysgol Pen Rhos caters for 420 pupils along with 60 nursery children and was hailed as a ‘superschool’ following a £10m investment in 2018 as part of the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools initiative.

The school was formed from the merger of the former Copperworks Infant Nursery School and Lakefield Primary School.

A spokeswoman for Carmarthenshire Council said: “We can confirm that an individual at Ysgol Pen Rhos in Llanelli has tested positive for Covid-19.

“We have robust procedures in place and the Test, Trace, Protect process is being followed.

“The school is directly in touch with parents to keep them informed.”
